About Rhodes Private Full-Day Tour

Overview

The full-day adventure begins at your preferred time with pickup at your Rhodes hotel or the port, if arriving by cruise ship. Head first to the UNESCO-listed Old Town, where you'll get a lesson in the island’s medieval history as you walk up the street of the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and past the imposing Palace of the Grand Masters, a 14th-century citadel restored in 1939 during the Italian occupation. Come to the old harbor entrance where the monumental Colossus of Rhodes once stood, and then drive up to the Acropolis of Rhodes to take in panoramic views and visit the ancient ruins of the Temple of Apollo and Greek stadium and amphitheater. Take a scenic drive along the island’s eastern coast through small villages and olive groves to the picturesque town of Lindos. Walk through the main town square and then either climb or ride a donkey up nearly 300 steps to the Lindos Acropolis. If you like, enjoy leisure time for lunch (own expense) or swimming on the nearby beach. On the return drive, cross the island from east to west, passing through forestland and the Valley of the Butterflies. If visiting from mid-June to mid-September, be enchanted by the sight of thousands of colorful butterflies that gather here during the summertime. You can choose to stop briefly or take a 30-minute walk through the valley. Continue on to the top of Filerimos Mountain and another acropolis at Ialussos, where panoramic views of the island and Ixia resort await. The tour concludes with drop-off back at your hotel, the cruise port, or the gates of Old Town if you'd like to continue exploring independently. Please note that your tour guide cannot accompany you into the archaeological sites.
