Tsambika Byzantine Museum

The Madonna of Tsampika is considered to be the patron saint of the island and you will encounter many Rhodians with the name Tsampikos (male) and Tsampika (female). This madonna is especially sensitive to requests of couples with difficulties baring children. Though the main church is on the highway, there is a little shrine up the top of the mountain where the icon of the madonna appeared, after having left Cyprus. There you will find a room full of photos of babies, not only of Greeks and Turks but of tourists who have visited the island and asked the Madonna for help.
