About Ancient Olympic Stadium - Rhodes

The ancient Olympic Stadium is located in the Acropolis of Rhodes on Monte Smith Hill. The Haleion Games, in honor of the god Helios, were once held here. The site was initially restored by the Italians during their occupation of the island in the early half of the 1900’s. Official and spectator seating has survived. We noticed modern day Rhodians like to have their morning walk here! A petite marble theatre (Odeion) is located next to the stadium. It held approx. 800 spectators, most likely for musical and theatrical performances. It has been heavily restored and not much remains from the original structure. If you like steps, it’s a good workout to the top.
